There are times when the mission indicates the need to host a cloud instantiation of their system on Federal premises due to the government’s estimates and conclusions based upon risk and mission considerations. In these cases, it may indeed be possible to establish a cloud instance internally to the government but also supported by contract personnel who hold appropriate clearances and ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to sufficiently safeguard the data/information in question and still ensure mission execution. Numerous instances of this exist. As cloud service providers and technology matures and enables more proficient safeguarding of data/information, migrations to commercial cloud offerings will increase.
